Respondent performed a diagnostic and operative ankle arthroscopy, repair of the anterior talo-fibula ligament, and placed a mitek anchor device in the fibula on March 21, 2003. After the surgery, the patient complained that she heard a popping sound and had continued pain X-rays showed that the anchor had shifted. During the course of several post-operative visits, Respondent took x-rays and indicated the patient was showing improvement and encouraged the patient to start walking. The patient was further evaluated by another physician who ordered an MRI, which showed a dislocated anchor. The standard of care required Respondent to recognize the displacement of the anch0r device, and to properly manage the patient's post-operative care.
